John was brought up in Uganda and the UK. His ministry has been in Yorkshire and South Africa. For 10 years he was Bishop of Selby in the Diocese of York before retiring in July 2024 and was Chair of St Hild College Council, lead bishop on the Net Zero 2030 working group and co-chair of Methodist-Anglican Partnership for Unity in Mission. He enjoys cycling, knitting, reading, writing, singing, walking and gardening. He is married to Sue and they have two daughters and two grandchildren. Sue and John now live in Penrith, Cumbria and John is an honorary Bishop in the Diocese of Carlisle.
