Formation

9th March 2021

At Emmanuel our vision is to equip the whole people of God for the whole mission of God across the north west today.

Our ethos emphasises Christ-like formation as central to our common life. We seek to be a community that is nourished by the Holy Spirit through worship, word, and sacrament, and steps towards the challenges of discipleship, ministry and mission with joy, creativity, and a pioneering spirit.

For ordinands and licensed lay-ministry candidates, sponsored by their dioceses, all of our pathways involve the combination of a focused ministry formation programme, a contextual ministry placement, and a rigorous and faith-filled academic theology programme. The goal is to help you grow as a person, to inhabit your vocation, and to become more fully yourself in Christ.

For independent undergraduate or postgraduate students, either self-funded or sponsored by other church authorities, our focus is on delivering rigorous, faith-filled, and inspiring academic programmes that will resource contemporary Christian discipleship by staying alert to the realities of the twenty-first century and inviting you to connect your faith with real life. Whilst independent students do not have a formal placement or ministry formation programme, our academic programmes are attentive to the implications of theology for a variety of other spheres including leadership, work, politics, ethics, mission, and society and we encourage all of our students to make connections between their classroom learning and whatever context they are currently living and working within.
