GMH Mentoring

We believe that theology belongs to the whole people of God, and we celebrate the breadth and diversity of the global Church in our teaching and learning. As part of that, we are committed to ensuring that a range of theological voices are encountered in our classrooms, and we want to play our part in developing the pipeline of theological educators of Global Majority Heritage for the future Church. In partnership with the Church of England Racial Justice Unit, Emmanuel Theological College is offering a funded national mentoring programme for emerging GMH and UKME theological educators to develop experience, grow in confidence, and explore their vocation. 

Who is this for?

Anyone who identifies as being of Global Majority Heritage, and who is discerning a vocation to be a theological educator. This could be in a TEI like Emmanuel, or more widely in Diocesan training/resourcing roles or other theological education work. Eligible candidates must have completed or be currently working on a Masters degree (HEFQ Level 7) or Doctoral level research in a recognised HE institution (FHEQ Level 8).

What’s involved?

The mentoring programme includes: 

• a College-based teaching mentor to meet regularly with the mentees and provide feedback and input on teaching and learning
• a College-recruited certified professional development coach to help mentees develop their confidence as theological educators
• opportunities for teaching practice alongside experienced Emmanuel staff throughout the year
• and attendance at 3 Emmanuel residential weekends for all mentees to gain experience of different approaches to formational teaching and learning.

The programme lasts one academic year and is funded thanks to a financial grant from the Church of England Racial Justice Unit. The programme does not include any salary/stipend for mentees.
