Emmanuel Theological College is delighted to announce that The Revd Dr Christopher Landau has been appointed Honorary Professor of Practice in Christian Spirituality from October 2024.
Professor Landau currently serves as the Director of ReSource, an organisation whose calling is to enable little, local, and ordinary churches to engage with the Holy Spirit for renewal, discipleship, and mission.
As a scholar and teacher, Professor Landau’s areas of expertise are in ecclesiology and New Testament ethics. He has written various articles and monographs, including significant works on ecclesial disagreement – A Theology of Disagreement: New Testament Ethics for Ecclesial Conflict (2021) and Loving Disagreement: The Problem is the Solution (2022).
Speaking at the announcement of Professor Landau’s appointment, our Dean, The Revd Canon Dr Michael Leyden, said, “I am delighted that Christopher has accepted my invitation to become Honorary Professor at Emmanuel, joining our growing team of experts who are shaping the life of the College and the students we serve. Christopher’s work on ecclesial conflict and his passion for the spiritual renewal of the local church exemplified in his leadership of ReSource fits so well with our Christ-centred, Hope-filled, and Mission-orientated ethos. I am greatly looking forward to what we will achieve together over the next two years.”
In response, Professor Landau expressed his deep gratitude to the College for the invitation to take up this role, and his excitement at what lies ahead: “It is a real joy to be invited to take up the role of Honorary Professor at Emmanuel, and to have an opportunity to work with so many leaders as they prepare for public ministry. Whatever eventual shape their vocations take, we know they will need to be people of prayer, reliant on the work of the Holy Spirit in their own lives, and alert to that work in the lives of others. I am looking forward to playing a part in all that Emmanuel is doing to form Christ-centred and Spirit-enlivened leaders for the future.“
Honorary Professors contribute to teaching and learning, staff development, and the wider life of the College community. They bring a considerable amount of wisdom and expertise to the formation and training of future priests, deacons, and lay leaders, and help to ensure we offer the very best opportunities to our students. Professor Landau joins the current team alongside Professor Kelly Brown Douglas, Hon Professor of Global Theology, 2023-25.
