First and foremost I have loved Jesus since before I can remember. I grew up in London in a Christian home with theatre and faith running side by side which led to my first degree at Chester University in Theatre and Theology. I had been diagnosed at a young age as ’significantly’ dyslexic which is a big bit of my story. By the grace of God, a lot of hard work and a lot of support from the university I managed to leave with a degree! This paved the way for 10+ years youth ministry through theatre, community youth clubs, street evangelism, church based youth ministry and training up others to do the same as I worked for the Light College and All Saints Church in Hoole. Mission Shaped Church (2004) opened up a whole new path way for me of pioneer ministry in the CofE and led to three years training at Ridley in Cambridge. On return to Chester Diocese, my wife and I ran a theatre expression of church for many years whilst also having the privilege of leading an amazing city centre parish: St Peter’s, Chester which at present is a café shaped expression of church and mission – and we love it!

I am married to Cydney and have three amazing kids. Although I am doing less theatre these days I still love it, and music, and film! Deep down I’m just a big thespy and when I retire I could very happily go and volunteer at the Globe theatre! I am also excited about my MA dissertation thesis which addresses the question of how the Doctrine of the Trinity could dialogue with Christian Leadership to enable us to find and pioneer new church leadership pathways as we move into this exciting new season of the Church of England.

Areas of expertise

  • Making it up as I go along
  • Trusting Jesus for the outcome
  • I also have some experience / invested interest in theatre, theology, church planting, missiology, evangelism, being a good husband & dad, secular leadership studies and enjoy grappling with organisation theory and encouraging church leaders who struggle in this area to not give up getting better at it!
