Manchester Centre Lead Tutor

BA (hons) Divinity; MA, University of Cambridge.
PGCE Religious Studies, University of Durham.
PhD, Theology (The Book of Job), University of Birmingham.
Durham University Teaching and Learning Award (DULTA), 2017.
HEA Associate Fellowship, 2018 

Before joining Emmanuel, Claire was Director of Postgraduate Programmes at All Saints Centre for Mission and Ministry and Director of Studies for All Saints ordinands from Chester Diocese. She has led modules in Christian Doctrine and in Biblical Studies, the latter focused particularly on the Book of Job and creation themes. Previous experience includes teaching and research in Theology, Religious Studies and Philosophy in a range of contexts across further and higher education and roles in education funding and policy. 

Claire Egan

As well as spending time with her husband and four children, Claire enjoys seeing things from different perspectives through walking, photography and astronomy. She is a member of the Franciscan Third Order, trained in spiritual accompaniment within Chester Diocese and leads retreats.

Areas of expertise

  • The Book of Job, Wisdom literature and creation texts in the Hebrew Bible and apocrypha. 
  • Creation, providence, divine action, the problem of suffering, theodicies and the nature of hope.
  • God as creator’s relationship with creation.
  • Franciscan incarnational theology.
